Ruth Carpenter Litt, a Patchogue, Long Island, suffragist, was an innovative farmer and wealthy landowner who went on to become a major political force. Her political savvy and generosity helped get the vote for women. She led a highly organized district campaign to enroll her newly enfranchised sisters. Her work led to a revolutionary change in the election districts of Brookhaven, Long Island. She encouraged women to run for office too.
