Victoria Earle Matthews was a journalist and author. She was a founder of the Women’s Loyal Union of New York and Brooklyn to assist Ida B. Wells. Delivered speech, “The Value of Race Literature,” at the First National Congress of Colored Women in Boston, Massachusetts, July 30, 1895. Involved in the founding of the National Federation of Afro-American Women (renamed the National Association of Colored Women after merging with the National Colored Women’s League). Founded the White Rose Industrial Home for Working Class Negro Girls, also known as the White Rose Mission.
